Note: This page contains spoilers for the August 15, 2024, game of Jeopardy! — please do not scroll down if you wish to avoid being spoiled. Please also note that today’s game is an encore presentation of the game that originally aired on March 18, 2024.
Here’s today’s Final Jeopardy (in the category Eurasia) for Thursday, August 15, 2024 (Season 40, Game 136):
Zvartnots International Airport serves this capital & has the code EVN, all letters found in the city’s name
(correct response beneath the contestants)
Today’s Jeopardy! contestants:
Ben Chan, a philosophy professor from Green Bay, Wisconsin |
Troy Meyer, a music executive from Tampa, Florida |
Yogesh Raut, a social and personality psychologist from Vancouver, Washington |
Andy’s Pregame Thoughts:
Today’s encore presentation is of Game 5 of the 31st Tournament of Champions final; this match saw Ben Chan one victory away from winning the tournament, with Yogesh Raut and Troy Meyer on one victory apiece. Yogesh, at this point, was already very much aware of the wagering mistake he made in Game 1 that cost him victory in that game.

(The following write-up is original content and is copyright 2024 The Jeopardy! Fan. It may not be copied without linked attribution back to this page.)
Zvartnots International Airport is the airport servicing Yerevan, the capital city of the former Soviet republic of Armenia. The city is, interestingly, connected to Noah’s Ark and Mount Ararat; it reputedly got its name because “Yerevats!” means “It appeared!” in Armenian; Noah was said to have looked upon the area following the famed flood’s recession. Zvartnots itself gets its name from the town of Zvartnots, located about 6 miles west of Yerevan.
Back in March when this game originally aired, I was more interested in the fact that Russian border guards had been forcibly removed from Zvartnots International Airport, instead of making a prediction as to how the Final was going to play.

Troy got himself back in the game by finding DD2 and doubling up. However, it was Yogesh, betting from the lead, who found the last one—in a good category for him, to boot. He took full advantage, picking up a $15,200 True Daily Double and used that momentum to propel himself into a runaway going into Final!

Troy 15 correct 4 incorrect
Ben 14 correct 1 incorrect
